Aim: A. To give a basic understanding of the "interaction" in an organization, in order to enable the student to:
- describe an organizational system, its componints, and its adherent environment.
- analyse the interralations of the component systems and the corresponding effects on the above-mentioned "interaction" with the purpose of clarifying any symptoms of non-adaptation.
- identity likely reasons for non-adaptation and to identify the need, if any, for organizational restructuring.
- assess the need for necessary changes in each component system, e.g. as a result of omplementation of new technology, new production control methods, or the like.
- suggest methods for planning and omplementing suitable organizational restructuring.
B. To develop the student's skills at:
- active and constructive participation in meetings and group work.
- oral and written presentation.
|
Contents: A. "Theoretical part".
Initially, a number of "schools of thought" in organizational theory will be gone through and discussed, with a view to introducing the students to a variety of theories about human organizational behaviour, and also to give an idea of the history of the development of organizational theory.
Thereafter, system-oriented org. theories and models will be used focus on:
- The dynamic interplay between the administrative, technical, and social component systems, and the interplay between the orginazation and its environment.
- The organizational processes. (The decisional, communicational and goal-oriented processes).
- Organizational change or development, for instance initiated by PSO-projects, these being projects that aim to change/develop Personnel, Systems and Organiszation concurrently.
B. Group Project.
Pertinent theories and models are used to analyse organizational problems in "real-world" or a fictive company. The analysis should result in substantiated proposals for solution of the problems.
C. Individual Project.
Each stydent will constructively evaluate the course as a holistic process, and in so doing, will give sucstantiated proposals for improvement.
Remarks:
The formation of groups will commence on the first day of the course, where attendance accordingly is mandatory. Absence without a valid reason, such as sickness, will be considered a de facto expulsion from the course.
