Department: Department of Applied Engineering Design and Production
Aim: To learn the student to analysis and define the total materials flow and informations flows from raw material, throigh production, assembly, delivery, use, maintenance, demolition and reuse, in order to improve the logistic performance, ie. cystomer stisfaction, precision in deliveries, productivity and flexibility. This should be accomplished by simplification, syncronisation and integration in the supply chain and introduce new ways of cooperation provided by information technology.
Contents: Definition of logistics and supply chain management. Analysis of materials flow and information flow in an enterprise. Logostics strategies and goals, external integration of materials flow control, the virtual enterprise. Analysis of tining and econimy in the supply chain and special tasks in ordet to propose ways for improvements. Analysis of distribution networks, transportflow, localisation, capacity dicisions. Introduction to information technology support for intefration. Cases: Groupwork with a set of cases to introduce analysis methods and two major cases on logistics systems during the term. The cases are different for each group. Introduction to material handling, storage and internal transport systems by multimedia system. Analysis (linear programming) of dimensioning of transport systems. Analysis (spreadsheet) to support decisions on utilisation of capacities. Games to illustrate reactions in supply chains, ie. a manual Forrester game and simulation based games. Simulation on relations between warehouses in the supply chain and the transport economy.
