Aim: To enable the students to optimise desired vibrations and minimise indesirable vibrations in practical structures, and as a part here of minimise acoustic noise. This requires an understanding of modality and natural frequencies, together with the ability to judge the effectiveness of different damping devices.
|
Contents: Systems with two degrees of freedom. Simplifying large systems. Stiffness and flexibility matrices. Critical rotational speed. Continuous beams. Vibrations in loaded structures. Vibrations of plates. Mechanical impedance. Response for undamped and damped systems. Transfer function.
Analysis of motion and forces in plane mechanics. Minimization of oscillating and rotating forces in 3-dimensional mechanisms. Balancing and minimizing of inertia forces.
Noise measurement, reverberation measurement, room acoustics, sound power measurement, principles of noise damping.
