Department: Department of Acoustic Technology

Aim: To train the students in the formulation and planning of an engineering project. To obtain experience with a rational approach to research and development carried out in a group.
|
Contents: The project starts at the end of the 14-week term. The participants are divided into groups and each group chooses a specific task (see the list below). On the basis of an introduction to fundamental acoustic concepts and supported by available literature each group creates a plan for and a description of the task ahead. This written plan must include a timetable and must be approved before the 3-week term begins. During these three weeks a njumber of relatively simple acoustic experiments are carried out on the basis of the prepared plan. The planand the results must be dosumented in a complete report.
Examples of measurements:
Hearing measurements (threshold of hearing)
Measurements of the attenuation of hearing protectors
Speech intelligibility measurements
Bit-rate reduced audio signals
PC-controlled reverberation measurements
Subjective evaluation of loudspeakers/headphones
Listening tests in an IEC room
Simple sound intensity experiments
Dummy head recording
Stereo recording using two microphones
Vibration analysis
