Aim: To give an extensive knowledge of the main topics in biochemistry, providing a basis for solution of both theoretical and practical problems in biotechnology.
|
Contents: Molecular biochemistry: Structure of proteins, lipids, nucleic acids and polysaccharides. Conformation and function of macromolecules including reactive centers of enzymes and their catalytic mechanisms, enzyme kinetics, coenzymes, inhibition and regulation of enzymatic processes.
Cellular organization: Macromolecules, membranes and subcellular structures as the basis for understanding biological functions.
Dynamic biochemistry: Cellular metabolism. Degradation of carbohydrates, lipids and proteins. Energy formation and conservation. Electron transport and oxidative phosphorylation. Photosynthetic energy production. Biosynthesis of carbohydrates and lipids. Nitrogen metabolism in the cell and biosynthesis of amino acids and nucleotides. Integration and regulation of metabolism at the cellular level and in organs and organisms.
