Department: Department of Structural Engineering and Materials
Aim: The course aims at giving the students a fundamental knowledge of the properties of masonry. Thus after having completed the course, the students will be able to decide, whether or not a masonry structure can be used with advange in an actual case. Further they will be able to prescribe optimal combinations of mortar and brick and thereafter to verify strength and deformation capacity for different elements like walls, columns, beams, disks etc.
Contents: Structural applications of masonry. Masonry in modern architecture. Statical properties - compression strength, tensile strengths, stiffness. Calculation of umreinforced elements-, vaults, columns, disks and walls including composite walls. Calculation of non shear reinforced beams. Calculation of other reinforced elements - columns, walls and disks.
