Department: Department of Electric Power Engineering
Aim: To gain practical experience in basic microcomputer techniques - obtained by programming an industrial 80537-microcontroller in order to solve an engineering problem.
Contents: Introduction to the 80537-microcontroller, itÆs architecture and programming in ASM and C using PC-based development tools. Making small programs to acquire knowledge of the microcontroller and itÆs build-in I/O-ports, timers, interrupt system and serial channels. The last half of the course work is concentrated on a major program, which enables the microcontroller to perform different actions on a laboratory model of the power grid. Some keywords for the program are: data acquisition, signal analysis, user interface and real-time operations. The course requires no previous experience in electric power systems - primarily itÆs a microcomputer course, but skills are practised on electric power problems.
