Department: Department of Electric Power Engineering
Aim: With basis in the electric network problem, the aim is to give an interdisciplinary insight into the ideas and concepts common to the treatment of discrete systems in the classical disciplines of physics.
Contents: Graph-theoretical principles and procedures for constraint formulation of discrete systems. Representation of the laws of Ohm and Kirchoff by linear graphs and matrices. Kron's and Roth's description by means of an algebraic-topological 'road-map' of the potential ways of solutions of the electric network problem.
The main emphasis is on the solution of the electric network, DC as well AC in stationary state, yet augmented and illustrated by considerations and analogies to mechanical systems. The user of this conceptual apparatus is trained by implementation in the array-oriented language APL (A Programming Language). Hereby a generalization is achieved, establishing the foundation for an organized formulation of complex, large-scale systems strung together by a finite number of discrete elements.
