Department: Department of Electric Power Engineering
Aim: Instruction in the basic facts of construction and running of electric power plants from power plant to the connection point of the consumer.
Contents: The course includes lectures, problem solving and a major flow exercise and demands a 3-week period followed by a 14 week-period.
The basicformulae for calculating electrical constants for overhead lines and underground cables is given. Mathematical models for other traditional components in the powersystem are presented. Grounding systems and protection of power systems and electrical installations are treated together with safety considerations for human life as well as material. Analytical methods for determing the electrotechnical conditions in power systen during normal operation as well as when exposed to faults are practised. Fundamental contrivances concerning safety will be demonstrated in a high voltage distributions system ( 10 kV). Active participation in exercises through out the period is an essential condition for acquisition of the material presented in the lectures.
