Department: Department of Electric Power Engineering
Aim: The objective of the course is to provide a basic understanding of high voltage technique and the associated laboratory and measurement technique. Furthermore, the objective is to give the students a basic understanding of the concept of electric strength of insulation systems comprising liquids, solids and gasses with regard to design and construction of insulation systems for high voltage applications.
Contents: Electric gas discharges are treated comprehensively as well as the basic mechanisms in connection with the electric strength of gasses, liquids and solid dielectric media. Furthermore, laboratory techniques for the generation of high voltages with the associated measurement techniques are treated. Methods for the control of electric fields in electric apparatus are used together with moden numeric field calculations and used for the design of insulation systems. 4 experimental laboratory afternoon exercises will give experiences with the special measurement and calculation methods that are used within the high voltage technique.
