Aim: To formulate mathematical models for technical flows and to solve these problems numerically. Numerical models will mainly consider potential flows, laminar and turbulent boundary layers and recirculating flows. Development of codes for simple flow problems. Use and modification of larger codes, for complex flow problems.
|
Contents: Fundamental equations of fluid mechanics. Discretization of analytic formulation as foundation for numerical methods. Stability: up-winding schemes, numerical diffusion linearization, truncation error, convergence and consistency. Potential flows: Direct methods based on singularity distributions. Laminar and turbulent flows: Integral and finite difference methods. Recirculating laminar and turbulent flows: finite volume formulation. Introduction to multi-grid methods, mesh generation, methods for solution of systems of linear equations, and graphical presentation of results.
