Aim: To give the participants some experience concerning the use of computers for solving computational problems within the field of civil engineering and to make them capable of developing well documented computer programs for solving problems of a moderate size. At the same time the students will be motivated to use computers in other fields.

Contents: Programming languages (scalarprogramming in MATLAB). Numbers and character strings (representation etc.). Structured, stringent thinking and programming. In- and output of files. Multigrogram process. User friendliness (incl. datacontrol and documentation). Basic knowledge of computers. Examples in commercial programs (spreadsheets, databases and GIS).
