Aim: To enable the student to conduct elementary analysis of geotechnical seepage-, deformation-, and bearing capacity problems in order to design the most common foundation structures.
|
Contents: Soil classification and description. The principle of effective stress, capillarity. Seepage, flow nets. Consolidation theory. Compressibility of soil, oedometer testing. Strength of soil, triaxial and vane testing, short and long term strength of clay. Bearing capacity analysis for footings and piles.
