Aim: To give the students further insight into aspects of construction methods, equipment, planning and engineering economy.

Contents: Choice of equipment and determination of output in time for earth and rock works. Drive mechanics: Altitude and temperature dependent performance of internal combustion engines. Required tractive effort dependent on rolling resistance and grade.
Properties of soils, soil stabilisation and compaction. Methods for rock drilling, and blasting.
Pipelines: Excavation, connection and laying of pipes. Piles and pile driving. Special water and underwater methods for foundation, tunneling and caissons. Roadconstruction.
Site layouts: Space requirements, transport routes and installations: Roads, water, electricity, lights and shelters.
Work studies: Statistical methods, theory of queues, operation analyses and occupational and environmental hazards. Engineering economy: Investment assessment, cash flow and feasibility studies. Organisation and management.
