Department: Department of Applied Civil and Environmental Engineering
Aim: For the student to solve a major overall engineering exercise in order to document sufficient knowledge and maturity as well as the ability to do independent work.
Contents: A problem has to be dealt with from an engineering point of view. The subject can either be a thorough treatment of a specific topic or the handling of a broader problem, referring to several disciplines. A thesis project will often include activities such as the study of literature, laboratory experiments, designing, and theoretical investigations. Usually two students will be working together, selecting a project based on a short outline from a teacher and then on their own defining the problem in detail and deciding how to solve it.
