Department: Department of Applied Electronics
Aim: The course objective is to make the student capable of:
- analyzing and constructing complex synchronous sequential circuits
- making state transition diagrams for systemcontrollers
- making logical expressions for system controllers
- dividing systemcontrollers into smaller ones more easily makeable
- analyzing and constructing asynchronous circuits
- choosing between a single-chip-microprocessor versus a PLD-solution when implementing systemcontrollers and other large size networks.
Contents: Definition of systemcontrollers. State transition diagrams. Timingdiagrams. Asynchronous signals in synchronous systems. Metastability. Glitches in combinational network. Presentation of traditional logic (TTL, ECL and CMOS) and programmable logic (PAL, PLA, PROM, CPLD, FPGA e.t.c.). Examples of programming devices. Programmable systemcontrollers. Systemcontrollers based on a PLD-solution versus a single-chip-microprocessor solution. Hardwarecost, time-to-develop and speed of circuit. Asynchronous network. Hazard and hazard because of logic circuit reductions made by design programmes. Use of tools for simulation and task.
