Aim: To make the student able to use and understand the basic concepts and principles used in modern data- and telecommunication-systems.
|
Contents: Information theory: Information, entropy, coding efficiency.
International standards for the connection between terminals and network. The ISO's 7 layer model for datacommunication (the OSI-model).
Protocols for for the transmission of data. Standards for datanet (RS 232, Ethernet, Token Ring).
Detection and correction of errors (retransmission, CRC check, etc.). Probability of errors.
Sampling (ideal and natural). Time- and frequency domain description. Signal reconstruction (D/A-converting).
Digital coding. Quantizing noise. Digital modulation in the base band (PAM, PCM, TDM).
Bandpass modulation of digital signals (FSK, PSK, QPSK). Intersymbol interference. Eye diagrams.
Analogue modulation (AM, FM, etc.).
Noise description in the time- and frequency domain.
Introduction to modern communication systems.
