Aim: To enable the participants to design, implement and debug embedded systems for industrial or instrumentation purposes.

Contents: - Types of microcontrollers for embedded systems, including signal processors and processors for PC.
- Types of interface equipment, including considerations concerning OTS chips versus application specific chips.
- Networks based on CAN-bus, Fieldbus, bit-bus, I2C bus. Protocols.
- Types of input/output; industrial interface (24V, 230V). EMC.
- Digital controllers.
- Development tools. Embedded C++.
- Design principles for distributed real-time systems.
- Synchronisation across network.
- Hierarchical systems.
- SCADA systems, PLC. Alarms.
- Dependability and reliability.
