Aim: The course objective is to give the student an understanding of the fundamental principles of digital communication systems.
Contents: Digital coding and modulation. Error correcting codes. Bit reduction techniques. Information capacity of noisy, bandlimited transmission channels. Synchronisation and detection. Signal to noise ratio and error rate. Spread spectrum. Examples of digital communications systems (audio, radio, TV, satellit and optical communications systems).
