Aim: To give a solid foundation in essential methods which are used in electronic measurements of physical quantities. A number of principles used to convert a physical parameter into an electrical signal are explained and the first treatment of the signal is discussed.
Contents: The course begins with an introduction to instrumentation systems in general plus a number of selected transducers such as thermocouples, thermistors and strain gages together with transducers based on inductive, capacitive, piezoelectrical and photoelectrical effects. After this a more thorough treatment is given to some selected fields of measurements such as temperature, pressure, displacement, deformation, force and velocity of flow etc. Based on radiation instrumentation the course introduces statistical methods used to process measured results in general.
