Aim: The purpose of the course is to familiarize the students with organic chemistry and enable them to evaluate and use the organic chemistry literature in a rational manner.
|
Contents: The organic chemistry is taught with reasonable basis in modern mechanistic concepts. The students are trained in the IUPAC nomenclature. The functional groups are treated systematically. The stereochemistry is discussed in some detail. The chemistry of carbohydrates and peptides are introduced. The spectroscopic methods, UV, IR and NMR, are introduced with emphasis on their utilization in identification of organic compounds.
