Aim: The aim of the course is to give the students a background for work in the pharmaceutical industry and in the health sector, expecially hospital laboratories.
Contents: Human physiology and physiological chemistry, with the main emphasis on digestion and absorption from the gastrointestinal tract, blood and lymph, respiration, kidney and urin, chemistry and function of hormones and defense systems of the organism.
Pharmacology, comprising absorption, distribution, metabolism and elimination of drugs, and the time course of drug action. Confectioning and testing of drugs.
Within the above mentioned topics or others related to the medical chemistry, among these biochemical methodology, each student undertakes a more detailled study, and writes an essay on the subject. This essay is presented and defended oraly in the classroom, and later evaluated as part of the requirements to pass the course.
