Department: Department of Applied Chemistry
Aim: The aim of the course is to give the students such an insight in process control technique that they can plan the instrumentation of rather simple plants and are able to tune single loop controllers. Further that they can cooperate with specialists in connection with more complicated problems, and are able to study more advanced literature on the topic.
Contents: Laplace transform and transfer function techniques. Description of simple dynamical systems. Mathematical analysis of the feedback loop. Proportional, integral and derivative control. Frequency analysis. Bode diagrams. Practical methods for controller tuning. Programmable logic controllers. Control valves. Instrumentation examples from the chemical industries.
