Aim: To give the students an insight into the theories of Geographical Information Systems, geographical datasets, their quality, keys and access to data by working with projects, lectures and seminars
Contents: The students will be working in project groups; each group will be given the task to get a dataset with geographical keys and transform this dataset to a GIS system and make an analysis and a description of the data quality. The projectwork will include the structure of Geographical Information Systems and databases, topology, digital elevation models, data exchange and formats connection between digital maps and administrative databases, 3D-data and visualisation. When the datasets from each group are read into the GIS, the datasets are compared and statistical analyses are carried out.
