Aim: This course aims to give students a deeper understanding of the use and benefits of the tools provided by new technology for construction. It builds on the introduction provided by 64006 CAD for Civil Engineers and forms the background for the more specialised courses. The course can also be taken by students who want more background to assess IT use more generally in building firms, but who do not wish to specialise in that field.
Contents: The course covers the essential professional area of IT in the planning and building processes: project planning with IT systems (eg CAD), classification systems, use of database technology for layering and handling of project data, product modelling, modelling (2D and 3D), object-oriented design, decision support systems, the results of introducing IT into firms in the building sector, IT strategies, communication tools, electronic scanning of dokuments, internet and the Web.
