Aim: To provide theoretical and practical knowledge of inorganic chemical compounds and processes. To develop proficiency in calculation of systems in chemical equilibrium.
Contents: The elements and their compounds. Occurence, extraction, production, structure, reactivity and applications. Illustration of the inorganic chemistry of selected metallic and non-metallic elements. Law of mass action, gas phase equilibria, ionic equilibria and aqueous solution, concentrations and activities, solubility, acid-base equilibria, pH calculation, buffer systems, complex equilibria and redox equilibria. A number of exercises are to be done, and seven samples analysed.
