Aim: To give the students an overview of the most important ceramic materials with special emphasis on characteristic production methods as well as important physical and chemical properties and emphasizing problems related to compatibility of materials.
Contents: Typical ceramic raw materials, treatment of these, rheology, industrial shaping processes, drying and high temperature processes (sintering, melting, crystallization). Cement; traditional ceramics; glass, glass ceramics; refractories and materials for thermal insulation; technical ceramic materials with special properties (chemical, mechanical, electrical, magnetic etc.).
