Aim: To give the students training in experimental microbiology. To demonstrate theoretical principles dealt with in 24101 Micro Biology 1.
|
Contents: Microbiological methods. Identification of different microorganisms, fungi and bacteria. Microbial physiology including growth kinetics, growth yield, induction of enzyme synthesis and catabolite repression. Bacterial genetics encompassing conjugation, mutagenesis and penicillin enrichment, isolation and analysis of mutants. Bacteriophages. Analysis of bacteria from waste water with respect to their resistance pattern to antibiotics. Recombinant DNA techniques including DNA analysis, cloning and transformation.
