Department: Informatics and Mathematical Modelling
Aim: Introduction of numerical methods as tools for analyzing nonlinear dynamical systems. These tools are based on methods for solving initial value problems for ordinary differential equations. The participants are made familiar with the numerical tools through practical exercises.
Contents: Theory for numerical methods for solving initial value problems. Multi-step and one-step methods. Accuracy, order and stability. Explicit and implicit methods and their implementation. Treatment of large, stiff systems of differential equations. Visualization of properties of dynamical systems, phase plane, Poincare sections and iterated maps. Design of software for dynamical analysis. Real-time simulators. Systems with changes of state. The assignments are based on practical apllications. A number of lectures will be given by guests.
