Aim: To introduce the participants to problems concerning:
1) decisionmaking under risk or uncertainty
2) use of probability theory and statistics to evaluate situations, where an incident with very small probability has unacceptable consequences.
|
Contents: Discussion of the question:" How do we ought to act?" and a corresponding discussion of different ethical theories. Discussion of the relation between a model and the reality being modelled by the model. Discussion of different interpretations of the mathematical concept of probability. Presentation of some fundamental probability models used for risk assesment. The theory is illustrated by means of examples where a technically acceptable solution is not necessarily acceptable from an ethical point of view.
