Aim: Through lectures and exercises to give students a theoretical background and practical experience in dealing with chemicals and ecotoxological problems. Emphasis is put on description of the characteristics of chemicals as pollutants, including test methods for the characteristics.
|
Contents: In the theoretical part of the course is given a presentation of ecotoxicological effects and fate of compounds on/in different biological levels, e.g. on animals, plants, biological societies and ecosystem. Concentration-response relationships and environmental quality evaluations based on ecotoxicologial tests are parts of the course and exemplified by selected groups of chemicals. In the exercise part of the course is included different standard tests for practical testing of the toxicity of chemical towards zoo- and phytoplanktion, aquatic and terrestrial plants together with investigations of degradation and bioaccumulation.
