Department: Institut for Procesteknik
Aim: To enable the students
- to analyse complex bulk and sheet metal forming processes by theoretical as well as experimental methods.
- to apply these analyses for determination of structural conditions in the metal during and after the process, (strain, strainrate, stress, temperature, yield strength and hardness distribution) to determine favourable process and tool geometries and materials and to design tools for the forming processes.
- to select appropriate machine tools for given forming problems
Contents: a) Bulk metal forming including: theoretical analysis of flow through conical converging dies and cup extrusion. Description and analysis of wire and tube drawing, ironing cold, warm and hot forging/extrusion, including workpiece materials and geometries, lubrication and tool design. Material data, forming defects, fracture criteria.
b) Sheet metal forming, including: production of sheet metal and resulting properties, anisotropy. Theoretical and experimental methods of analysis. Formability, instability and fracture. Processes: deep drawing, bending, stretch forming, blanking.
c) Machine tools, including: hammers, screw presses, hydraulic and mechanical presses.
