Aim: To enable the students to understand the many problems in development and manufacturing of industrial products, in particular the interaction between choice of material, production methods, product design and manufacturing data.
|
Contents: By studying and dismantling a wellknown industrial product - a lawn mower, a bicycle gear, etc. - the students should:
a) Describe the various components regarding their function, choice of material and production method.
b) Calculate realistic prices for the components.
c) Prepare instructions for suitable assembly/disassembly of the product.
d) Suggest possible design changes for easier assembly/disassembly.
e) Evaluate the product from a life cycle and recycling point of view.
f) Discuss ways of process automation.
