Department: Institut for Procesteknik
Aim: To give the fundamental principles of physical and physical chemical metallurgy, and to show how the application of the principles leads to a clearer understanding of phase transformations in technologically relevant metallurgical processes and strengthening mechanisms in metallic materials. Thermodynamic and kinetics theory of phase transformations in metals e.g. precipitation hardening, solidification and martensitic transformation; dislocation theory of mechanical properties.
Contents: The structure of alloys. Diffusion. Dislocations and plasticity of crystals. Deformation of metals and alloys. Solidification. Diffusional and diffusionless transformations in solids.
