Aim: - calculate hydrodynamic forces on a body in a steady flow of an ideal fluid.
- use the stream function and the velocity potential in characterizing the simple steady flow of an ideal fluid.
- calculate viscous resistance for a plane surface in a homogeneous steadyflow.
- calculate ship hull resistance using model tests and empirical methods.
- estimate an optimal Wagening B-serie propeller for any given propulsion condition.
- determine a main engine for the basic ship project.
Contents: Continuity equation, linear momentum, Bernoulli¿s equation, the stream function, the velocity potential, boundary layer theory, physical similarity, foil theory, propeller theory.
