Aim: - explain the fundamental principles of the finite element method (FEM).
- prepare an appropriate FEM-model.
- make use of FEM-programs for structural analysis purposes.
- interpret the rules of ship classification societies for direct strength calculations of hull structural elements.
- make use of more advanced methods of structural analysis not covered by the standards of the ship classification societies.
Contents: The Finite Element Method (FEM):
- Beam element modelling of frames and grillages.
- Strength and stress analysis.
Ship structural elements:
- Design loads on structural elements.
- Beam element strength analysis of structural elements in the ship hull.
- Direct strength calculations using the rules of classification societies.
- Structural design analysis not covered by classification standards.
