Department: Department of Hydrodynamics and Water Resources
Aim: (1) to carry out flow experiments and parameter identifications in the soil physics laboratory (2) to obtain an understanding of multiphase flow in porous media including water flow in the unsaturated zone, immiscible flow of hydrocarbons in the unsaturated zone in the groundwater zone and air flow in the unsaturated zone; (3) to develop and apply numerical models for multiphase flow.
Contents: Water flow in the unsaturated zone, capillarity and retention, unsaturated hydraulic conductivity, transport and dispersion of solutes, governing partial differential equations. Two-phase flow in porous media (air-water, oil-water). Three-phase flow in soil and groundwater (air, oil, water), capillary pressure curves, relative permeability curves, residual saturations, heterogeneity, numerical models. Remediation techniques. Flow, transport and diffusion in the air phase, vacuum enhanced recovery, air sparging, numerical models.
