Aim: Students should obtain an understanding of concepts that are central and characteristic for computer operating systems and be able to use them, for instance in accounts for central aspects of an elected system or in comments to a suggested solution for a given problem.
Students should obtain experience from localising, studying and possibly modifying the handling of problems in a concrete operating system.

Contents: The following topics will be presented: the history of operating systems, processes, supervision and control of user processes, coordination and synchronisation, allocation of resources, file systems, protection and security.
