Aim: The aim is 1) that the participants will obtain a basic understanding of the relation between technology and society, especially related to chemistry, and 2) that the participants obtain knowledge of fundamental characteristics of engineering work, as well as the needed requirements of qualifications, especially related to chemistry.
Contents: The course introduces to concepts of technology, of driving forces behind technological development, and to the interaction between society, societal actors, and technology. The subjects are presented with a chemistry-relevant exapmle. The historical development of the profession of engineers, the specific characteristics of engineering work, and the requirements of qualification is introduced.
