Aim: The aim of the course is to develop the students' ability to analyse changes aiming at sustainable development in developing countries. The course gives the students knowledge about theories and experiences within planning and implementation of environmental regulation and regulation concerning working environment at global, national and local level. The course module gives also an understanding of the social, economic and cultural conditions in developing countries influencing environmental regulation. Furthermore, the students learn to analyse the relations between environmental regulation and innovation patterns and their impact on the implementation of e.g. cleaner technology in companies in developing countries.

Contents: The main elements of the course are:
-The history of national and international environmental regulation.
-Theories on main regulatory approaches and the experience with various instruments.
-Studies on processes of environmental policy-making in developing countries.
-Regulation and institutional infrastructure related to capacity building within cleaner technologies, environmental management and other strategies aiming at sustainable development.
-Development aid projects within environment and working environment.
