Aim: To provide the students with the ability to comprehend and use a series of central concepts and methods in mathematics and to enable the students to formulate mathematic models for chemical systems and to solve these analytically or by approximation methods.

Contents: Formulation of steady-state and instationary differential mass and energy balances. Flux relations, convection, diffusion and heat conduction. Chemical reactions. Heat and mass transfer coefficients. Transport across curved surfaces. Formulation of boundary conditions. Solution of linear ordinary differential equations and systems of linear differential equations. Bessel functions. Linearization and stability. La Place transformation and transfer function. Functions of complex variables. Infinite series with constant and variable terms. Linear partial differential equations of 2nd order. Selected numerical methods.
