Aim: To introduce the participants to the production and properties of cement, and to the quality evaluation and repair of existing concrete structures.
Contents: The course consists of two parts, a part of cement technology and a part of concrete technology.
The cement part deals with production of cement, the properties of cement powder and a quantitative description of the hydration and strength development.
The concrete technology is treated through an introduction of the program for operation and maintenance of the bridges of the Danish Road Directorate. Further, some of the methods used to describe the quality of a concrete structure are introduced (planar and thin sections, capotest and chloride measuring) and finally, the participants work out a proposal for repair of a major structure. (Part two of the course is carried out together with the Danish Road Directorate and COWI A/S).
