Aim: The aim of this course is to give the students such knowledge about international standards in Data communications that he/she will be able to design interfaces (hardware and software) between different layers in communication systems such as in the layers of the Open System Interconnection (OSI) from the International Standardization Organization (ISO) and the TCP/IP refence model of the Internet.
Contents: Classical data communication protocols in connection oriented and connectionless oriented systems.
The higher layers of the ISO OSI model and the Internet model ( network layer and higher layers..) for communication and the standards for the interfaces between the different layers in the models.
The course also covers different existing network topologies, routing problems etc.
Existing local area networks and the properties of different types are discussed.
