Aim: To qualify the students to evaluate the requisite building and environmental measures necessary to evaluate the older part of the existing multi-storey housing to an acceptabel standard, and to prepare proposals for this purpose.
Contents: Preparation of proposals for renovation of an existing block of multi-story housing. Each group has major responsibility for one building in the block and a joint responsibility for the overall plan of the block. To support the exercises the historical prerequisites and building technology of the existing housing mass are described in lectures. The various components of older buildings are described: masonry, tier of beams, roof constructions, stairs, carpentry, balconies, windows, etc. In addition, typical improvement measures relating to the environment, to use and to building technology are examined. Plan changes in accordance with altered requirements for use, outdoor and indoor insulation, new installations, fireproofing, etc. are included.
