Aim: The course should give the student a general introduction to problems concerning waste water pollution and methods for solving these problems, so that the student obtains the ability to:
1. Describe and carry of sampling and measuring programs for registering and control of the nature and extent of pollutants.
2. Estimate the effect of the discharge pollutants on the environment.
3. Design technical plants for treatment of polluted waters.
Beyond this, the student should obtain practical knowledge of problems and methods of current interest concerning water pollution and waste water treatment, so it is possible for he/she to participate in operation and development in this area.
Contents: Nature, sources, amount and spreading of pollutants and theirs effects on the environment Fundamental eco-toxicology. Characteristical parameters in different kind of waste waters. Methods for measuring and analysis of waste water and field investigations. Biological and eco-toxicology tests, and investigations of recipients. Treatment and minimizing industrial waste waters. Biologically, mechanically and chemically treatment of waste waters. Removed of organic matter, nutrients and trace elements. Anaerobic treatment of waste water and sludge. Xenobiotics in different environments. Alternative treatment of waste waters.
