Aim: To give the students basic knowledge of the structures of crystalline materials, which is necessary to describe and classify crystalline materials by common analytical methods and understand the general relations between structures of crystalline compounds and their chemical and physical properties.
|
Contents: Symmetry in crystal structures: Symmetry operations, crystal classes and space groups. Structure types. Lattice defects. Chemical electrical, optical, mechanical, and thermal properties of crystalline compounds. X-ray crystallography. The course is illustrated with minerals, alloys, classical and advanced technical ceramics, - as well as data bases and internet resources.
