Aim: The course is expected to be relevant for physicists and chemists as well as physically oriented students working within materials science and life sciences. Topics covered include; Free-energy functionals, Landau and mean-field theory, fluctuations, scaling, universality, renormalization-group theory, transfer matrix, master equations, numerical simulation methods, phase transitions and critical phenomena, fluctuating interfaces, interface instabilities, wetting, far-from equilibrium dynamics, conformational complexity, polymers, microemulsions, random surfaces and polymer networks, soft surfaces and interfaces, lipid bilayers and membranes.
