Aim: To give the students an insight into the potential applications of molecular biotechnology in industry, foodindustry, agriculture and medicine; to enable students to read the pertaining scientific literature.

Contents: Introduction to recombinant DNA technology, its tools, organisms and host/vector systems; safety/containment matters; gene structure; regulation of genetic engineering; gene libraries; specific applications regarding e.g. biopesticides, biological containment, transgenic plants, startercultures, vaccines, diagnostics and prospects in these areas.
