Aim: By the end of the course, you should be able to: explain why it is important to measure software reliability describe a generic statistical approach, and some specific models and methods describe methods for comparing and assessing the accuracy of predictions, and for model recalibration, and interpret the results of applying these methods explain the capability and limitations of software reliability measurement, with particular reference to testing strategies and diverse systems argue the need for reliability assessment at all stages of the software life-cycle, identifying the role of software reliability models in this wider context apply the principles of measurement to ensure that meaningful sets of statistics are obtained for the assessment of reliability define the number of (as yet) unanswered questions.
Contents: Reliability assessment in the life-cycle. Measuring software reliability. Data collection.
Generic approach and specific models. Evaluation of the predictions. Capabilities and limitations.
