Department: Department of Environmental Science and Engineering
Aim: The aim is to give the students an introduction to environmental engineering, and to the complexity that characterize environmental pollution issues. The course will also illustrate the importance of technical solutions to environmental problems.
Contents: Fundamental environmental issues and environmental technology. The subjects included are introduction to ecology, environmental chemistry, eco-toxicity and hydrology. Some technological solutions to problems related to pollution of e.g. air, soil and water (groundwater, surface water or waste water), will be presented. Possibilities for prevention of environmental problems will be discussed, for instance; cleaner technology, treatment of solid waste or recirculation of water. How to write a report, including how to make a problem formulation and how to review sources for information will also be included in the course.
